hi so I have a t-mobile plan where I have just a one gig threshold and I did use up my one gig and Im now at the point where its going to throttle so youll see that I got a text message here that says youve used up one gigabyte of high-speed in your t-mobile monthly plan and you will experience slower speeds up to 128 kilobits so I want to show you whether thats true or not using speed test so Im going to go write and speed test and later on Ill show you more practical uses such as a how it feels being on Google Maps or YouTube when its throttled like this so Im just going to begin the test and lets see whether it is restricted so this is megabits and youll notice it isnt slow it isnt down to 128 kilobits its actually 800 kilobits or 850 kilobits so so thats not too bad and youll notice the upload speed itself hasnt changed its still a good 3.5 or three-point-something megabits so this is the upload here so I guess thats one thing good about it its not
as slow as they claim as far as the throttling now if I go to how it actually feels when Im using apps it is a lot slower it because keep in mind its nearly three times or four times slower because it is down to 800 kilobits versus 3.5 megabits so let me zoom in here and you could see whether it takes a long time to actually get to or retrieve these maps so Im here in Vancouver and I sort of want to drill down to street level and youll see its taking a while to redraw all the streets and it hasnt even done that yet so it does take it you definitely can feel it and from so to notice these streets just popped up right there but from a perception point of view Id use a perception point of view its a lot slower than 4x the speed obviously its that thats because its actually bringing down sort of more data at a slower speed so its not quite 4x and youll notice its still trying to retrieve the data so Im not gonna okay so youll see now
these streets did appear so that thats sort of how it feels its still usable but you do have to sort of ration your data but but I find for me but when Im just using email and as long as I dont download a lot of videos from YouTube one gigabyte is enough for me if Im just grabbing email from Yahoo or whatever Gmail its usually sufficient and right here Im actually loading YouTube so Ive gone into the YouTube app and youll see how long it takes not even to load a video but actually just to load the trailers or the gifts for the videos so youll see its trying to load these previews and it takes quite some time but its still bearable now if I was to play the video youll see its unplayable or thats what youll find that it is pretty much unplayable so its taken forever to load here so its one thing to just be aware of is this is uh basically what youll get for you know having having the speed reduced and throttle to not quite 128 kilobits as theyve but even at
800 kilobits its a pretty slow so youll see its still going and going and I guess Ill have this up for another probably 20 minutes but then if it doesnt show up at least youll see just from a user usability perspective that you know whether its bearable for you in most cases for most people it probably isnt and theyll probably have to pay the extra thirty dollars or twenty dollars for a higher data plan but for me its totally sufficient using it for business and personal needs versus actually posting a lot of videos or doing or downloading a lot of videos or posting a lot of pictures from the phone so and youll notice the video did show up briefly but then it cut off because it still had to load a little bit more and if I do widescreen youll see its just spinning there and I guess Ill just end the video right here because I think weve waited long enough so but I hope this gives you a very good feel for what it is like to have the data plan throttled and thank you for watching
